0Taking kids to London’s West End for The Gruffalo Live at The Lyric Theatre
Two of Baby Girl’s birthday presents this year are the children’s books The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child by Julia Donaldson. After watching the show, which is playing at The Lyric Theatre in London’s West End until 6 September, last week I figured we needed to upgrade Baby Girl’s book collection with popular Donaldson titles, as I felt completely out of the loop.
I had seen The Gruffalo accessories in toy and book shops, but I wasn’t familiar with the story. This meant that when Baby Girl kept asking for when she would see the actual Gruffalo on stage, I didn’t know exactly when that would be.
And after having this conversation around 20 times I was getting worried too.
The sweet stage adaptation of the book starts with a mouse meeting a fox, then an owl and then a snake, and they all invite her home for lunch, but run away and leave her alone when she pretends she’s going to meet a Gruffalo for lunch.
Baby Girl and I were getting worried the Gruffalo wasn’t going to come, but he did of course appear mid-way through in a big, fluffy costume.
With catchy songs and an interactive performance–where little theatre goers help roar to scare off the other animals–the entertaining and charming show is ideal for preschoolers and young children.
In general, I also always find it pretty exciting when I can take Baby Girl to West End for a show – and now Baby Boy came along too. Going to The Gruffalo Live really was a great way to spend an afternoon over the school holiday!
We found tickets for The Gruffalo Live for £10 per person at From The Box Office, and we booked the tickets the day before the show
