heidi klein co-founder talks children’s beachwear and holidays

Bonnie Layered Dress Heidi Klein girlswearWith heidi klein being one of my favourite destinations for designer beachwear, I’ve been excited to see the brand introducing a new girls collection recently and at the same time launching its first boys collection.

Here co-founder and creative director Heidi Gosman answers my five questions about beachwear and holidays:

What is most important for you when it comes to children’s beachwear?
Heidi:
A few things: to make sure that the fabric contains SPF protection; that it is comfortable and easy to put on/wear and is in a style that is complementary and age appropriate.

With the growing focus on UV protection in children’s beachwear, how do you expect this to affect womenswear?
Heidi: We had customer’s wanting to wear rash vests with SPF protection much like their children’s rash vests. It is a sporty, chic option to cover up on the beach and can be worn over swimwear. Due to this demand, I designed the versatile white rash vest in the Fisher Island mainline range that was very popular.

What was the background for introducing beachwear for boys this season?
Heidi:
It was a natural progression after the launch of our girls collection last year. Our children’s beachwear pieces were a result of many customers, most who are parents, requesting something special for their children that they could not find. We are beyond thrilled that both collections were so well received.

Do you have any advice on how to get a very girly and opinionated pre-schooler to wear a rash vest on the beach!?
Heidi: Show her one of our rash vests? She might be inspired.
Tine: True!

What would you not travel without on a family beach holiday?
Heidi: Snorkel and masks, Ligne St Barth SPF 30 and lots of sunhats!
