How holiday impacts baby’s sleep

Vintage baby buggy with baby playing with its sockI’ve failed to teach Baby Girl about what makes the perfect holiday, and it’s meant our family is not in sync right now. Daddy T wants to read the latest crime novel and catch up on sleep, I want to find a spare moment to open my Kindle, and Baby Girl wants to spend more awake time together.

Baby Girl appears to have no interest in our plans to have a relaxing time in the sun. Instead, she’s all about finding new ways to incorporate more family time into the daily routine–and family time is now at all hours of the day.

There’s no such thing as sleeping through the night any more. Before we went on holiday 10-month old Baby Girl slept around 11-12 hours every night without waking up once, and she had done so since April. After we arrived in France, she started waking up hungry in the middle of the night again, and I’ve sometimes been up twice with her.

But I’m still trying to convince myself that the holiday has given me a real energy boost. Who wouldn’t come home with recharged batteries after spending an hour at 4.30 every morning rocking baby back to sleep? Holidaying with baby really is all about relaxation.
