0How to create a harvest basket to donate to the elderly
I was a very proud mum when I turned up at Baby Girl’s nursery the day she was celebrating harvest festival. I had Baby Girl on one arm and her buggy in the other. The buggy was used to transport her biggest artwork to date – a harvest basket, which will be donated to the elderly.
To create our very first harvest basket, we used a large cardboard box, which Baby Girl painted in lots of different colours at family club Purple Dragon. Her art teacher cut out some lovely leaves in coloured paper, which we glued on, and in the middle of the box we put a laminated bird that Baby Girl had made, which can be used for decoration.
At home we added red tissue paper and filled the box to the rim with tea, coffee, a variety of biscuits, soup, canned food, jam, marmalade, cereal and half-baked baguettes. I was pretty pleased with the creation.
At least until I saw the baskets other parents had made. There were pretty cards and beautiful tinned boxes wrapped in cellophane and filled with not only food but also matching mugs.
I now have a year to think about our next one. Perhaps Baby Girl will have to learn to paint on something else than cardboard. The game is on.
