0How to plan a first birthday party
Daddy T doesn’t really get it. He doesn’t understand why I compare planning a two-hour children’s birthday party to planning our wedding. But first birthdays are no laughing matter. I’ve taken the task very seriously.
There have been a lot of important decisions to be made, and a range of logistical challenges to work through. One evening was spent deliberating the cake transfer, something which can clearly not be frowned upon when there’s a Minnie Mouse cake by Kicca Cakes to transport, and another evening was spent debating whether to have the Minnie Mouse mascot I had hired from ABC Mascots delivered to the party venue or to our home address.
Then, there was the question about when to pick up the giant-sized number one helium balloon from Igloo Kids in King’s Road, where balloons can be filled with helium at the time of purchase, and after that, I was concerned with organizing an information email to all our party people to ensure everyone knew when the food would be served. While parents can generally survive an hour’s wait for the food, Baby Girl’s friends, who are all one-year olds, can be more difficult to keep happy if arriving hungry.
Finally, I had to get Baby Girl and myself ready to party. Her dress had to be ironed, and I had to arrange an appointment with Gloss+Polish to get my nails done at home one evening after Baby Girl had gone to bed.
Now we can get this party started.
