How to prepare your iPhone for baby’s arrival

1. Create space
If you’re like me and constantly run out of space on your phone, it’s worth ensuring existing photos and videos have been uploaded to the computer and deleted to make space for enough new ones before baby arrives. We had packed a fully-charged camera in the hospital bag last time, but it’s nice to take photos on the phone too to have something to send to curious relatives and friends in the first few days

2. Find a contractions timer
I started getting Braxton Hicks contractions in week 24 last time I was pregnant, and there were times when I wanted to start a contractions timer to see if they became regular. That’s why I downloaded iBirth again in week 33. This app comes with an easy to use contractions timer, and shows the history too. Even though I had a scheduled c-section during my first pregnancy, contractions started early and it ended up being an emergency c-section, so I wanted to be prepared for the same the second time around

3. Download a sleeping and feeding app
I also downloaded the Total Baby app again in the third trimester, as I was recommended this app the first time I was pregnant and used it for breastfeeding and sleep in the early days. It can be particularly useful to have an easy way to time the length of a feed and assess how long baby is on each breast. In the first weeks after having Baby Girl, I remember being surprised with how often we were asked questions on feeding and nappy changes by midwives, health visitors and other people helping us, and it would have been difficult to remember everything without an easy tracking system. For me, the app was more useful than pen and paper (although it was nice to look back at our handwritten sleep and feeding notes from day 1 with Baby Girl when we had Baby Boy!)
