How to sort out a last minute advent calendar

Last night I started wrapping presents for Baby Girl’s advent calendar. Instead of buying the WOW Toys Wonderland Advent Calendar I’ve been eyeing in Pottery Cafe on Fulham Road, I decided to take a DIY approach again.

After several hours of preparing the calendar, I started wondering  what I had been thinking. The WOW advent calendar looks really cool, and I think it’s a brilliant idea to have a ready-made advent calendar with toys that fit together and create a scene. This one would have been a good choice for us since it’s for children aged 1 to 5, but I’ve also seen fun Lego ones for slightly older children.

Instead of making it easy for us, however, I’ve spent my Saturday night wrapping Organix snacks, raisins, Christmas books, Kinder chocolate, PlayDough, paint, scissors and threading toys. Just another well-spent weekend.

But having an advent calendar is what’s important. Whether it is homemade, cleverly produced by a toy manufacturer, or simply an orange spiked with 25 cloves to take out, it’s about getting in the spirit of Christmas and preparing for the big Christmas countdown.
