0Taking the ice with Disney on Ice skaters
On Monday I ended up going to a family event without kids. I was not prepared to miss an ice skating session with skaters from Disney on Ice, and with Big Girl at home with tonsillitis my only option was to go solo.
Four-year-old Big Girl and I are very much alike when it comes to our love for Disney on Ice, so the good news was that she was very understanding. Of course I had to go and take pictures for her.
I started taking pictures even before arriving at the ice rink. The walk down to the Tower of London ice rink was magical. When I got there at 5pm it was dark, Frozen music was playing from the speakers, and snow crystal lights lit up the wall of the historic castle.
I was ready to hit the ice straight away, loving the feeling of freedom to go ice skating without getting a sore back and trying to support a little one. I grew up in a country where ice skating is a common winter sport, but it’s become something I seldom do as a grown-up.
Taking to the ice with the amazing skaters from Disney on Ice on Monday, however, reminded me of how fun it can be to go ice skating and the sense of achievement children feel when gliding on skates. I think we’re incredibly lucky to have the Christmassy ice rinks in the city centre located in some of the city’s most impressive historic locations, such as Tower of London, and as the children grow older, I want to make sure we make the most of the opportunities to ice skate in the city.
Thank you for inviting us to the amazing Frozen Disney on Ice event and inspiring us with twirls and lifts. A magical London evening on ice!
Disney on Ice presents Frozen is on at The O2 from 21 to 30 December. The show features a full production of Frozen live on ice, and it is hosted by Mickey and Minnie and also includes appearances by other Disney characters.
