0Introducing baby and toddler to stage shows with In the Night Garden Live this summer
On Sunday night a very impatient Baby Boy was crying hysterically at bedtime. I thought he would only cheer up when getting his milk, but I wanted to stick to his routine and try reading him a bedtime story. As soon as I opened In the Night Garden the crying stopped.
After taking Baby Boy to In the Night Garden Live last week he appears to have become a huge fan of Igglepiggle and Co, and nothing can now stop him enjoying a lovely story about his favourite friends.
We had been invited to the show to review, and it was an instant hit with one-year-old Baby Boy. He was bouncing up and down, attempting to dance to the music and looking completely mesmerized when he saw Ninky Nonk projected on the showdome ceiling and ‘travelling’ above the stage.
I was very excited to take him to the show, as I think In the Night Garden Live, based on the Cbeebies hit, is a fantastic show for a young audience. Although Baby Boy has just turned one and is yet to start watching the TV show, he clearly loved the live performance with the likeable and charming characters in cute costumes. After watching the show several times now, I still think it is my favourite show for introducing very young children to the world of live entertainment.
One of the reasons it stands out is because of the showdome, the family-friendly purpose-built venue designed for the show. The showdome has only 13 rows of benches, and there’s free seating. Everyone sits relatively close to the stage, and I like that the showdome is easy to access with a buggy.
The adorable and charming characters and furry costumes are also incredibly likeable, and I can see why Baby Boy was so excited to see Igglepiggle and Upsy Daisy live.
I loved watching his reaction when seeing the characters and hearing the songs, and the excitement was also pretty amazing when I gave him the toy boat with characters that I bought him in the shop area at the front. A brilliant day out with a little one!
In the Night Garden Live is playing in Richmond until 2 July. Most performances are sold out, but there were still some tickets available when I checked yesterday. Parking is available at the opposite side of the street, and I would estimate 10-15 minutes to park and walk across the bridge to the other side of the street. When booking tickets for the show, there’s an option to add a Meet the Character-experience, which takes place after the show, and a good value goody bag with toys.
