2Keeping baby entertained with iPhone apps
I think the black cab driver who picked up Baby Girl and I in Soho yesterday would have agreed with Grandma N. It would perhaps have been a good idea to focus more on getting Baby Girl to take a dummy.
At around six months, the dummy stopped having a soothing effect on her. She wanted to chew on it instead, and giving it to her started making her more awake when I was trying to get her to sleep, so I stopped.
I didn’t really mind either. I had one less thing to sterilise in the mornings and one less thing to pack in the changing bag.
The downside has been that there’s little to do when she cries the way she did in the cab home yesterday.
But yesterday I tried something new. I gave her my iPhone to soothe her. Not to chew on, but to play with the Peekaboo Baby Touch app by Ladybird, which a friend recommended. And it worked.
Baby Girl was entertained for a few minutes, touching the screen and looking at the colourful illustrations which match the ones in her Peekaboo book by Ladybird. The cab driver could hear himself think. I could collapse back in the seat.
I didn’t think I could survive without my iPhone before, but I definitely can’t do without it now.
Oh this is lovely! Something exactly from my topic 😉
Great! Glad to hear you liked it. I like the fact that Baby Girl can touch the screen when using the Peekaboo app without turning it off or changing the settings.
