Keeping mum and baby safe in the sun

It’s not easy being responsible for two people with sensitive skin on the beach on a hot summer day. In fact, it’s practically impossible when one of the two is a ten-month old baby with beautifully soft skin.

My challenge last week was not related to protecting Baby Girl though. It was related to protecting myself.

I took Baby Girl to the beach for the first time ever on Thursday, and I was determined to ensure she was safe in the sun. I dressed her in a long-sleeved UV suit and hat, and she had Supergoop sun tan lotion on all areas that were not covered by the suit. When she was all done, I unpacked her UV tent and sun umbrella to create shade for her.

The only thing I forgot was me. I haven’t been sunburnt for years, but on Thursday I came home with a large, red patch on my back. I clearly need one of these UV suits too if I am to survive another beach holiday.
