13 tips for getting mini Londoners ready for nursery school
Ballet essentials
Several London nursery schools have ballet classes as part of the standard programme, and for others in the age group it’s a popular after school activity. Girls may want to wear a tutu skirt for the occasion, and I love the handmade tulle skirts from Dainty Dizzy (see picture above), which come in different colour combinations and start from £20. We received one to review when Big Girl turned 2. It was a wardrobe favourite and other friends opted for the same tutu skirt. We’ve typically bought ballet shoes at Trotters, and I also like the dance shop at Royal Academy of Dance in Battersea.
Nametags
When Big Girl first started nursery I thought the sew-on nametags looked much smarter than stickers, but it didn’t take me long to order a pile of washable sticker nametags instead. They’re simply much more practical and makes labelling quick and easy. I’ve ordered Baby Boy’s nametags from My Nametags, as I like the size and quality of their nametags and the ordering process is straightforward.
Drawstring bag
Many nurseries will ask parents to bring a drawstring bag or a kit bag with the child’s name for spare clothes. Grandma N made one for Big Girl when she started nursery, but to save her the work this time, I’ve ordered Baby Boy a personalised cotton drawstring bag from Great Little Trading Co. It is designed as a swim bag and is small in size, so there won’t be any chunky sweaters in there, but it serves the purpose.
For labels, I’ve become a fan of the stamp you can label with. This is available at http://www.stamptastic.co.uk/
