1London Transport Museum launches new play areas
On Saturday London Transport Museum in Covent Garden launched the impressive, interactive transport-themed All Aboard play zones aimed at children up to 7 years old.
One area is aimed at under 5s, including a soft play corner for pre-walkers, where there is an interactive wall to touch to make lights appear (see picture at the top) and building blocks.
The section for under 5s also includes a black cab with a metre that can be stopped and started (see picture), a double decker bus with several opportunities for budding bus drivers to practice, a river boat with a cafe for pretend play and a driver seat on the top floor, as well as dressing up costumes and other toys.
The second area is aimed at under 7s and has a real bus and a mini tube where children can try their tube engineering skills. There’s also a ‘Lost Property Office’, an ‘Information Desk’ and dressing up costumes – ideal for encouraging role play.
I had been invited to see the new spaces before they opened and went with a friend and our two toddlers, and we ended up spending an hour and a half in the museum. London Transport Museum was already extremely child-friendly without the new play zones, as there are so many historic trams and buses to climb in an out of and a tube and a modern bus children can sit in and steer, but the new play zones make it a must-see museum for families with young children.
Entry to London Transport Museum is free for children, and adult tickets are £16 (valid for one year).
