0Maternity nurse-related stress syndrome
Panic attacks are not just for deadline days in the office. I’ve discovered a new type of stress – the stress of losing a maternity nurse in the last minute.
I booked a live-in maternity nurse when I was four months pregnant. It might sound early, but it’s amazing how quickly the good ones book out.
You could almost wonder if some women book them before they get pregnant. The first maternity nurse I spoke to could only start six weeks after my due date.
Our chosen candidate, however, was recommended to us by friends, and she seemed like a lovely person. She came over for a coffee one evening, and Daddy T and I both enjoyed having her around. Baby Girl would be in safe hands with this one.
But four weeks before my due date the perfect maternity nurse became slightly less perfect. She pulled out of the contract. It wasn’t really her fault though. There’s not much you can say when someone is clearly unwell and needs acute surgery followed by a long recovery process.
Baby Girl would have to start her world adventures without her chosen pal.
