0Monitoring baby’s breathing in the first months
There are two things I’ve done every evening this week. I’ve gone online to get the latest news about the royal baby, and I’ve checked that my own little one is breathing. Both very exciting activities.
But the royal baby news is only something I’ve followed since Sunday. The breathing check has been a more permanent agenda item. My little one is 11 months now, and there’s not been a day without me watching her chest moving when she’s been asleep.
I realise breathing is something most new parents focus on in the beginning, but I have a feeling many move on. There’s probably a reason why the breathing monitors on the market are aimed at babies–not 16-year-olds.
But I never even dared to use a breathing monitor although we bought one to prepare for Baby Girl’s arrival. I was too worried about the alarm going off by mistake and making me panic for no reason.
Instead, I stuck to checking up on her regularly when she’s sleeping. I just don’t know when to stop. Yesterday she was on her tummy and appeared to have her face almost buried in the mattress. Although she was perfectly fine, I moved her slightly to ensure there couldn’t possibly be anything covering her airways.
Monitoring my baby’s breathing keeps me busy at all hours of the day–and I’m sure the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will find out all about this exciting evening activity any day now too.
