0When mum attempts to survive settling toddler into nursery
‘Where is his Dumbo, Mummy? How can he sleep if he doesn’t have his Dumbo?’
I didn’t exactly feel great when dropping off Baby Boy at nursery the other day. He was screaming hysterically from the moment we entered his class room, and four-year-old Big Girl who had come along was shocked I was so badly prepared.
I had completely forgotten Dumbo.
Dumbo is fifteen-month-old Baby Boy’s soft toy, and Dumbo is one of the cuddly toys that sleeps with Baby Boy. After he’s started nursery, Dumbo seems to have had a calming effect on him.
That’s why Dumbo has come to nursery every day, and I think Dumbo has helped the settling in process, as Baby Boy seems to like holding onto his familiar cuddly friend.
With Big Girl I had a cuddly toy that I left in nursery for nap time, but I’ve now started bringing Dumbo back and forth–something I’ve already realised will be very difficult to manage.
I’m terrible at remembering to bring everything when we’re all rushing out of the house in the morning. In fact, Baby Boy didn’t even have shoes when we were in Strada the other day, and on the day I forgot Dumbo I was so pleased with myself for having remembered to put his little shoes under the buggy that I forgot everything else.
l hope Dumbo is easy to find in shops in the UK though, as it turns out we desperately need a spare one to keep in nursery.
I really want to avoid more days walking around feeling guilty and worrying if it is the missing Dumbo that causes the tears–or just something completely different.
Simplifying problems!
