0Natural History Museum opens T. Rex Grill for dinosaur fans
Yesterday I was trying to get a photo of four-year-old Big Girl and 20-month-old Baby Boy in front of two dinosaurs. It didn’t work at all. It ended up having to be me lifting them both, as Baby Boy clearly thought the two new interactive dinosaurs in London’s Natural History Museum were the real thing.
I’m not surprised he got a bit scared though, as the new dinosaurs, which are by the entrance to T. Rex Grill–the new dinosaur-themed restaurant in the museum–make scary noises and look pretty real for little ones. They are much smaller than the large T. Rex in the dinosaur gallery, and they don’t have the realistic background, but I think this new restaurant display will be another popular museum feature for Big Girl and Baby Boy.
We had been invited to the official launch of the restaurant yesterday, and I liked the large and modern family-friendly T. Rex Grill, which is managed by Benugo. In addition to the two interactive dinosaurs by the entrance, there are large pictures of different types of dinosaurs on the walls, but with white gloss brick-effect tiles by the kitchen and brasserie style furniture it still doesn’t look too much like a kids zone.
The menu features pizzas, burgers and steak, and I had a cheeseburger with fries, which was tasty, and the kids had cod goujons and fries. The kids meals came with carrots and cucumber batons to start with, and other options included kids pizzas and tomato pasta.
For dessert, I tried the dino eggs ice cream, which was ice cream served in a tumbler with chocolate sprinkles and chocolate eggs on top. The kids tried ice cream and fruit salad, and the ice cream came with a dinosaur-shaped chocolate, giving it the wow-factor, according to Big Girl.
Natural History Museum was very busy yesterday with long queues outside when the museum opened, but it still seemed to be problem-free to secure a table in the large T. Rex Grill, so I’m sure we’ll end up eating here again.
At the launch we also had the opportunity to learn more about dinosaurs from one of the knowledgeable museum guides and explore the dinosaur gallery. Look out for the dinosaur near the exit, which was discovered in Surrey!
