What you need to know before going to a sandpit

When I took Baby Girl to the beach area in Bishop’s Park the other day we came a tiny bit unprepared. Instead of sitting down to play in the sand, we ended up running around trying to grab everyone else’s buckets and spades.

We had clearly spent too much time in Battersea Park Children’s Zoo where there’s always some equipment to use in the sandpit, and I’d failed to recognise that we actually had to bring our own sand toys to a normal playground.

It was not cool to have to survive with a broken spade that someone had left behind.

But never again. Next time we won’t leave the house without spade, bucket, sifter and watering can.

Amazon Prime became our answer for the sandpit emergency, and we now have a range of fun and colourful Melissa and Doug sand toys, including a very convenient foldable starfish bucket, which I can easily fit in my bag.

Bring on summer!
