OneLane for helping parents drive kids in London

When I was chatting to a friend about schools yesterday, I mentioned what we had in mind for Baby Boy–what would work logistically and what could work with help.

It is not always feasible to manage more than one school run for a parent, considering the distances in London and schools often starting at the same time.

The same problem arises when it comes to after school activities. Traffic can be horrendous, and as Baby Boy grows older I can see planning activities for two children becoming a bit of a nightmare.

That’s why I could see a huge potential for a service I was contacted about earlier this year–OneLane.

OneLane was launched to help parents drive kids around London, and the company stands out because the drivers, which OneLane calls ‘guardians’, are vetted childcare professionals with enhanced DBS and DVLA checks.

The guardians are nannies, childminders, teachers, tutors, and nurses, and they can look after children aged 5 to 11 and take them to school or to an after-school event.

I haven’t tried OneLane myself yet, but I can see it being a useful service for families who need help transporting little ones around the city.

OneLane operates in London in zones 1 to 3 for now, and all services can be booked via their app. Childcare time is priced at £14 per hour for a maximum of two hours (booked in half hour segments) and accompany time is priced at £0.50 per minute and £0.45 per mile. There is no charge for the 5 minutes at the start and end of the journey.
