0Keeping children entertained on the go with Orchard Toys sticker colouring books
When Big Girl was one and a half it all started. It was the obsession with sticker books.
We bought a bunch, thinking they would last us for ever. They didn’t.
Sticker books are not cool when they’re half done, and we always seem to be in the market for new ones. I regularly add some to our Ocado shopping, or pick up a couple if I get lost in the toy section in the huge Fulham Wharf Sainsbury’s.
Sticker books have become as essential as passports for travelling now and I always keep at least one in the changing bag. That’s why I was also excited to see one of my favourite UK toy companies Orchard Toys introduce new educational sticker books earlier this year.
The new 24-page Orchard Toys books (£3.99 each) are sticker colouring books with black and white illustrations and a double-page sticker sheet, focused on supporting learning goals like writing letters, number and first words.
I received their First Words and Make Believe books to try, and they are both good value sticker colouring books ideal for entertaining kids when out and about.
My favourite is First Words, as I like the educational focus. Big Girl’s favourite is Make Believe, as its purple and features stickers and illustrations of characters in fun costumes.
The series also includes books with letters, numbers and animals, but I picked First Words for Big Girl since she’s learning to read. The words are next to the illustrations though, so she guesses the words before reading them unless I cover the pictures.
What I find it’s best for is letter recognition, spelling out words by finding the right letters on the sticker page, matching, tracing and writing the words under the illustrations – not to mention colouring!
