5 top tips for packing the hospital bag for mum

Emma Jane Maternity BriefsI feel I’ve been packing the hospital bag for weeks now.  It’s all the preparations that take long, and everything needs to be bought or washed and so on. But here are my top tips for how to pack for mum:

1. Plan for being stuck in bed
Since I’m having a c-section I won’t be able to leave the hospital bed for the rest of the day after the surgery, so I’ve packed glasses to wear instead of contact lenses, antibacterial wipes and the Mustela cleansing fluid for babies, as I can use this to clean my face too without rinsing with water.

2. Bring basic toiletries, maternity pads and hospital panties
I’ve also included other toiletries, toothpaste and toothbrush, and I wouldn’t want to be without Natracare Maternity Pads and hospital panties, so I’m thrilled to have received a pack with 7 disposable panties from Emma Jane Maternity, which are designed to wear after both normal labour and a c-section. The panties are individually packed, which I think make them very practical.

3. Pack your breastfeeding essentials
For breastfeeding, I’ve packed the Lansinoh disposable nursing pads and Lanolin cream, which I’ve received as samples and also bought more of myself, as I want to do everything I can to stay comfortable and avoid soreness. I’ve also packed nursing wear, such as a seamless non-wired nursing bra from Hotmilk, which I’ve received to review, coloured nightwear from Boob Design and Carriwell and nursing tops from Boob Design

4. Choose practical and loose clothing
For going home or walking around before Baby Boy arrives, I’ve packed loose trousers that won’t be uncomfortable to wear over the c-section scar, such as the personalised joggers I recently received to review from LeaversHoodies.com, and my loose Eberjey pants. I also liked having my robe last time, as a robe is practical for covering up and still allows for easy feeding. I’ve also packed a robe and pyjamas for Daddy T.

5. Don’t forget vital extras like stem cell kits, camera and gifts for siblings
In addition to bags for me and baby, we have three extra bags to bring–one camera bag, one Smart Cells stem cell collection kit bag, which Daddy T will have to remember to pass to the medical team before the c-section, and one super cool big sister bag we’ve received to review from The Essential Bag Company for Baby Girl to receive when she visits in hospital.
