0What to pack for a road trip
The year before we had Baby Girl, we did a road trip in California, driving from San Francisco to San Diego. I can’t see us repeating this trip any time too soon. But I’m sure it would have been doable–and here are a few of the items that could make road trips with children in tow easier:
Yondi travel pillow
We recently received a sample of a Yondi travel pillow from Trunki (see picture above), and I love the design of this pillow, as it stops children’s heads falling forward when sleeping. It also has a little hook for attaching a comforter, ensuring it’s not lost mid-journey.
iPad
I don’t travel anywhere without the iPad these days. It’s almost as essential as our passports, as it’s both fun and educational for Baby Girl to play with on the go. If you download entertaining apps, it can be a lifesaver to survive boring car journeys.
Toys
When we were on a beach holiday earlier this summer, a friend came much better prepared than us. She had brought a range of Fireman Sam toys for her little one, and they turned out to be extremely popular. Next time we were flying we bought a Minnie Mouse toy for Baby Girl – a beach Minnie with detachable sandals, swimming suit and sunshades – and this has also been a hit. Little characters with a few accessories like these really are great for entertaining pre-schoolers on the go.
Disposable bibs
I’m usually very relaxed about messy eating, but this summer I’ve been carrying disposable bibs around. They’ve been very useful to have as back-ups when we’ve had an unplanned meal in the car or an ice cream stop!
