0Piccolo Plates makes dinner time easy with London kids food delivery service
When three-year-old Big Girl had a 7 veggie pasta bake on Sunday and ate like a star Daddy T agreed that a £5 kids food delivery service was pretty awesome. He had first thought it sounded a bit extravagant, but it’s easy to like ending the weekend with no cooking to be done for the kids, no pots and pans to clean after bedtime, and two kids fed with a nutritious homecooked meal.
We had received some samples to try from Piccolo Plates, a new London company focusing on delivering healthy, homecooked, child-friendly and nutritious dishes to eradicate the everyday hassle of cooking for London families. The female entrepreneurs behind the business have complementing backgrounds, with one holding a degree in nutritional therapy and the other one having worked with food and restaurant businesses.
The dishes are delivered chilled and one meal has been enough for 10-month-old Baby Boy and Big Girl to share. Most days we’ve tried our samples it’s been Baby Boy who’s been the biggest eater, and I’ve suddenly realised he loves his pies. Fish pie, cottage pie, veggie shepherd’s pie–he’ll not only have seconds but easily go on for thirds.
I think the Piccolo Plates pies and pasta bake were fantastic dishes for kids packed with nutritious ingredients, and fine to serve on their own. We also liked the cod and salmon goujons and I then quickly prepared some baby pasta and peas for Big Girl and Baby Boy to have with them. The only thing I would have wanted to change is the foil packaging, as I’m not a fan, but I realise foil is incredibly practical for making it easy to reheat the meals.
I know we’ll be ordering more from Piccolo Plates, as I think particularly the pies would be brilliant to keep in the freezer for days when I come home later than expected and don’t have time to cook or simply need an easy option.
Piccolo Plates deliver for free across London on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the minimum order is two dishes. The dishes, which are £5 each, are delivered chilled and need to be reheated. All dishes can also be frozen up to three months.
