0Gearing up for Fulham’s ultimate family day out Polo in the Park
When four-year-old Big Girl and I had a burger dinner in White Horse the other day I noticed customers were already recommended to make bookings for Fulham’s major social event – Polo in the Park. I can’t see us being part of the White Horse crowd that weekend, but I love the sound of the programme for the actual event in Hurlingham Park and I’m thrilled to have been invited to the Sunday event.
Polo in the Park takes place in Hurlingham Park from 9 to 11 June, and the Sunday is the important day for families. We were invited to attend two years ago too and I quickly realised it was the ultimate family event in Fulham–the place to sip a glass of champagne while watching the action on the polo pitch, or running around on an inflatable assault course and jumping on space hoppers with the little ones.
As in the past two years, the programme this year includes a Sharky & George pitch invasion on the Sunday morning. From 11am to 1.30pm, Sharky & George will be ready to entertain both children and parents on the hallowed turf, starting off with rocket balloon launching and giant bubble making, and continuing on with space hopper steeplechase, mega sack races and rocket balloon javelin.
Families can also expect waterbomb catapulting competition, giant musical mats, sock wrestling, 100-a-side tug of war and the biggest ever game of musical statues at the fun and unique summer event.
Based on my experience two years ago, this is the type of event where mums and dads don’t only stand on the side and watch but get stuck in and have a blast with the children.
For a quieter event experience, it’s also possible to escape to the Little Hooves Club at Chestertons Polo in the Park, run by Eddie Catz. Although this area will also see children bursting with excitement, I liked that there was an arts and crafts area where Big Girl enjoyed sitting for a while.
This year, there will also be a bouncy castle, face painting, a soft play zone and for the afternoon, a giant inflatable assault course will be set up.
In addition to all the kids activities, there is also a boutique village, bars like Mahiki Bar, Champagne Lanson Garden Bar and Fever Tree Bar & Garden, and Ham Polo Club will be hosting polo lessons on the field alongside the pitch invasion.
I loved being able to return to Polo in the Park as a family and experiencing the event in a different light from when we had been to Polo in the Park pre-kids. I was gutted the event clashed with our half term holiday last year, but this year I think Fulham is in luck. The date suits the school calendar, and the programme looks outstanding.
Bring on the action!
