0How to prepare the master bedroom for a new baby
Daddy T was not thrilled when he realised he would no longer have his bedside table to himself. He hadn’t quite understood that one of his drawers would be emptied and replaced with whatever Baby Boy would want to keep in our bedroom.
It was something I had on my list of things to do before Baby Boy’s arrival, and I loved returning from hospital having everything ready for our newborn. No more foreign exchange and passports in the bedside table. Just nappies, cotton wool, disposable breast pads, a plastic bowl for water, spare baby clothes, muslins, wipes and a changing mat.
I had received the Organyc 100% organic cotton squares to try, which I placed in the drawer, and with these being larger than make-up pads, they are great to use with cooled boiled water for cleaning baby.
For night-time nappy changes, it was important to me to have easy access to all the essentials, and the pack of Organyc squares were next to an empty small plastic bowl for water. I like using cotton wool and water for cleaning newborns in the early days, and I still use cotton wool on Baby Boy for top-and-tail every morning.
I also tried to find a foldable changing mat for the bedside drawer, and after failing to find one, I decided on getting the Tutig changing mat from IKEA (£5), which is a large piece of fabric with waterproof backing, making it perfect to use on the bed. It is also machine washable and fits neatly into the bedside drawer.
A pre-filled drawer with smart changing solutions has been pretty convenient, and it’s not like we need easy access to Daddy T’s wallets with coins in different currencies any more.
Nappies are simply a tad more useful to keep within easy reach at night!
Organyc products are available in Planet Organic, Whole Foods Piccadilly and from some independent pharmacies in South West London.
