Protecting baby from flu

Every time I seek medical advice these days I seem to get the same answer. Breast milk is the solution. Whether it’s treating sticky eyes, coping with mastitis, or protecting baby from flu, it’s all about continuing breastfeeding and the benefits of breast milk.

When I had mastitis in November, I first thought I had flu and I got extremely worried about passing it on to Baby Girl. But it’s hard to keep a distance from someone who’s completely dependent on you for food.

I couldn’t exactly check in to a hotel and leave Baby Girl with Daddy T.  In fact, I was so confused about what to do if I as a new mum were to get ill with something that could be dangerous for Baby Girl that I even asked my GP for advice.

That’s when I realised it wasn’t necessarily as bad as I thought. The antibodies the body produces to fight a virus would be passed on to Baby Girl in the breast milk, meaning Baby Girl would be better protected. Breast is best.

I agree, breast is certainly best!

Thank you, Kerry. I’m almost worried about moving on to solids now.. I feel a sense of security knowing that she’s got more protection now that she’s fully breastfed.
