Review: Baroo Counting Sheep Bedding Bale for an instant nursery refresh

“We’re going to put the blanket on him, and there’s a little pillow for him!”

Baby Girl was beaming with excitement. She was standing on her chair leaning over the cot bed where we had just placed Baby Boy’s new Baroo bed set, which we had received to review from British baby and toddler bedding brand Baroo, and she seemed to love the cute, grey counting sheep print and the new look we had created for his bed.

The set, which includes a cushion, fleece blanket, quilt, cot bumper, and fitted sheet, is good value for money at £46.99 and ideal for parents who want a quick-fix to a nursery and avoid spending hours looking for an array of different pieces. It would also be easy to combine this set with other accessories, such as more scatter cushions in different shapes and shades of grey, or to add a splash of colour by introducing yellow in the mix, for example.

The Baroo Counting Sheep quilt (suitable from 12 months) isn’t quilted per se and has the cute pattern printed on it. In addition to using this as a decorative accessory in a nursery, I could see it being useful as an extra play mat for baby, and since it’s lightweight it would also be good for travelling and picnics.

Blankets are essential for keeping baby snug, and the polyester blanket in the Baroo set is white and has a sheep embroidered in one corner. Baby Girl tested the softness for Baby Boy and was clearly impressed: “Oooo. It’s very nice.” I also like the fitted sheet in 100% cotton, which fits standard sized cot beds, and matches the other items in the set.

I’ve not used a standard cot bumper before, and I like cot bumpers more for display than for use with newborns, but I think a bumper can make a nursery feel more finished. As an alternative for a cot bed, Baroo also offers practical bump pods, which are individual bumpers that wrap around the bars and would be my preferred choice.

For Baby Girl, however, it is all about making baby’s room look more ready for Baby Boy’s arrival, and I just hope Baby Boy will actually get to use his new soft blanket and bed set and that not all his things end up first being tested by a very eager big sister.

The Baroo Counting Sheep 5-piece Bedding Bale (£46.99) is designed to fit cots and cot beds.
