0Review: BT Video Baby Monitor 7500 Lightshow for top video quality and soothing features for newborns
When shopping for a baby monitor before Baby Girl was born we had mixed advice on whether to buy a video baby monitor or audio one, and we ended up getting audio only, having been convinced by arguments that video monitors did not have as good sound quality and battery life. We soon realised, however, that we were not the audio monitor type of people. We wanted to see Baby Girl.
The BT audio monitor we had bought, which had lots of cool functions and brilliant sound quality, was soon moved to grandparent’s house and at home it was replaced by the BT video monitor, which was good value for money.
We’re still using this and have been perfectly happy with the monitor, but when a friend who used to have the same told me that the new BT Video Baby Monitor 7500 Lightshow (£149.98) was a huge improvement on the old version, I was really intrigued. I knew we would want a new monitor or camera for Baby Boy as we still use the other one for Baby Girl, and I was thrilled when I was offered the opportunity to review one.
My friend was right. The new BT Video Baby Monitor is really impressive, featuring not only fun newborn functions like a starry lightshow, 19 lullabies to soothe baby and an adjustable nightlight useful for toddlers, but also fantastic video quality due to double the resolution of the previous BT video monitor and a larger LCD screen–now touchscreen.
With the previous version we also have to enter Baby Girl’s room to change the angle on the camera, but with this new one we can pan and tilt the camera from the parent unit. I also like the 3x zoom function, which is really useful since we don’t want to have the camera too close to baby, and the brand new micro USB charging system, giving us more flexibility when travelling or taking the monitor to friends’ houses – particularly when forgetting to bring the charger with us, as someone might have a BlackBerry or camera charger lying around.
Similar to the old version, it offers a talk-back function we sometimes use, and it can be connected to up to 4 cameras, which is useful for parents wanting to see several siblings on the same parent unit, or perhaps have a playroom camera in addition to a bedroom camera.
The new BT baby monitor is more expensive than the old version, but considering BT’s history in this market, the new features and the fact that parents easily end up using a baby monitor for years, it is worth getting the latest technology from a well-regarded brand at the time of buying.
