Review: Children’s Afternoon Tea at The Kensington Hotel

As soon as I read about the new monthly Children’s Afternoon Tea at The Kensington Hotel in South Kensington, I knew I would love it. The concept sounded truly amazing, and I was delighted when Baby Girl and I were invited to the January event as guests.

Before we arrived, I received a text from a friend saying: ‘It’s wonderful here!’ And she was spot on.

Coming here felt like such a treat. There was a large table for everyone to sit around, comfortable leather chairs, feathers and party decorations, balloons, tiger masks, crayons, juices, pots of tea, scones with clotted cream and jam, child-friendly finger sandwiches, and a selection of cakes, including brownies and fun gingerbread men.

At the front of the room, there were huge cushions for children to sit on, and Baby Girl seemed to be thrilled to bounce around, hang out with her friend and the older children, and listen to the story about The Tiger Who Came to Tea being brought to life while she had some sandwiches and scones.

I had a chance to sip my tea and enjoy the lovely food–at least until Baby Girl decided it was time to attempt to steal other children’s cakes.

She was soon distracted though. It was hard not to when she even received her very own goody bag with the Tiger book, colouring paper and pencils, chocolates, a flute and clapping hands.

The Children’s Afternoon Tea was an extremely well-organised and fun event in a beautiful venue, and I can see this becoming popular for local mums wanting to take their children out for a special treat or a birthday. We will definitely be back!

The Children’s Afternoon Tea at The Kensington Hotel is on the last Thursday of every month from 4-5.30 in the afternoon. The event is £20 per adult and £20 per child, and in February actors will be entertaining children with the story about Babar the Elephant.
