0Review: Convertible Submarine for getting summer-ready with pretend play
Yesterday I went for a dive and spotted some dolphins. At least that’s what I was told happened when Big Girl and I were pretending to go on a submarine journey and jumped out to swim around with the fishes.
The Convertible Submarine (Miles Kelly, £17.99) is one of the latest additions to the convertible book series by Miles Kelly, and I was excited to receive this to review, as I’ve liked these books so much that we’ve regularly bought them as birthday presents too.
The large picture book, which can be transformed into a sit-in toy submarine, tells a story about the submarine and what can be seen when looking out the porthole. Reading the text sets the scene for pretend play, and the story can be continued by children when pretending to sit in their very own submarine.
We read the story in the evening on Tuesday and when I then helped Big Girl turn the actual book into a submarine the next morning, the details from the book were fresh in mind, and she could talk about sea life and diving like a pro.
I like the convertible books because they are brilliant for pretend play, and easy to store. They don’t take up lots of space, and they can be pulled out of the shelf now and then when we need something fun for role play.
With me feeling ready to escape on a beach holiday again, pretend play under the sea makes perfect sense.
Summer fun!
