0Review: Disney on Ice presents Frozen for a feel-good family show to melt princess fans
‘I’m going to work on Disney on Ice when I get big!”
Four-year-old Big Girl has a new career goal. She’s gone from wanting to be a police officer after seeing Disney’s Zootropolis earlier in the year to wanting to become a professional skater on Disney on Ice.
I’m not surprised the brilliant skaters on Disney on Ice presents Frozen inspired her today though. We had been invited to review, and loved seeing Big Girl’s favourite film played out on ice.
The show started with winter-dressed Minnie, Mickey and friends spinning around the ice, and the Disney favourites were soon joined by a large cast of Disney princesses and Disney characters from films like Lion King, Toy Story and Finding Nemo.
After the high-energy Disney introduction, the lighting and music changed, bringing us straight into Arendelle. In the first act, Sven was a surprise highlight for both the kids, and I think the giant four-legged creature is done amazingly well in this production. After the show a happy Big Girl even said ‘the show was funny because there was a reindeer on skates’–a comment she followed up with a little giggle.
Sven was also a hit with 18-month-old Baby Boy, who was getting tired at one point but seemed to get an energy boost when Sven came on the ice.
In the second act, Olaf arrived and continuously made us laugh too. Baby Boy treated Olaf like a good friend, and regularly waved to the friendly snowman.
Big Girl looked worried, however, when Olaf, Kristoff and Anna were chased by the enormous snow monster Marshmallow. But Baby Boy shouted: ‘Wow,’ as he saw Marshmallow being inflated on stage and then rolling around making scary sounds.
I was surprised at how the Frozen skating show managed to entertain an audience of both boys and girls and their parents with giant-sized props, lots of snow, fun characters, impressive skating and popular tunes.
A fast-paced family hit to melt princess fans!
The show has been playing at The O2 in London this Christmas and there are two performances tomorrow at 10.30am and 2.30pm
