Review: Festive family fun with Father Christmas at Lyric Hammersmith

Lyric Hammersmith Christmas 2013 Raymond Briggs' Father Christmas - photo by Simon Annand

When leaving Lyric Hammersmith after seeing the Father Christmas show with Baby Girl yesterday, I felt the same as when we checked out of The One & Only The Palm in Dubai last winter. I was tempted to enquire about new dates.

I had received two complimentary press tickets to yesterday’s 10.30am performance, and Baby Girl and I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to see if we could find a date and time when Daddy T could come too.

Father Christmas, based on the classic children’s book by Raymond Briggs, is aimed at children under 6, but in my view, this adaptation is entertaining for parents too.

Fifteen-month old Baby Girl was giggling and pointing at Father Christmas’s dog, who stole his slipper, and I was giggling when Father Christmas received a drink mid-way through his journey around the world.

Baby Girl was completely captivated by the show, the small but impressive stage, the fun sounds and live music, and she only started getting a little bit wiggly after 35 minutes. But since we were in the Studio at Lyric Hammersmith, an intimate venue ideal for young children, she could sit on the stairs and was happy watching the rest from there.

After the show, we ran over to Bill’s across the street and had a babyccino, scrambled eggs and avocado.

Overall, this really was an amazing and memorable day out for me and my toddler in the middle of the Christmas rush.

Dates: Friday 22 November 2013 – Saturday 04 January 2014
Tickets: £10 adults, £8 under 16s
