Review: K’NEX construction kits for inspiring imagination with creative building

The other day I was lying under a bed searching for a missing fin. It wasn’t any old fin. It was the bright orange fin from an all important magical fish that the children had created.

We have been busy making magical sea creatures after receiving products from K’NEX to review. I feel I often hear about new construction toys, and I was excited to get an opportunity to try K’NEX as I liked the look of the kits with sturdy parts in different sizes that click together to make different models.

For children aged 3 and over, there are sets with chunky rods and connectors in vibrant colours, and designs including eyes for little builders to have fun creating. As in arts and crafts, I think it’s great that the sets include eyes for the creations – and I’ve noticed the two sets of eyes in the Kid K’NEX Ocean Pals set are so popular that I almost wish there were more in the pack. I also like that the pieces are easy to click together and there’s a guide with pictures of anything from a whale to a seahorse, which Daddy T and I have been busy making.

For young children I think it is equally fun to make up their own animals. Fantasy fishes and magical ocean creatures are definitely a hit – so much that they are needed for the bedside shelf at nighttime.

For older children, K’NEX has a huge variety of STEM-focused kits and tubs for allowing children to click together different models. We also received the K’NEX Imagine Creation Zone building set, which comes in a practical storage stub and is designed for children aged 5 and above. The set includes 417 small pieces that can be used to make anything from a robot to an airplane, and the pieces are tiny compared to the parts in the set for younger kids that also features more fun colours. In the K’NEX Imagine Creation Zone building set, there are 70 models to build by using the easy-to-follow instructions, and the tub is large enough to hold some models and partially-built models.

With a large set like this, I think building the models can make for a fun family activity, and I could see a K’NEX tub being excellent as a Christmas present that could bring a family together over the festive season.

Inspiring imagination in all age groups!
