0Review: London’s Sweet Prelude for unique personalised birthday cake
After Big Girl turned six and we’d had a party with her class, I felt wrecked in the evening, but there was one person I still wanted to take time to email that same day. It was Carolina from South West London’s cake company Sweet Prelude.
She had made a beautiful centrepiece for us to review, and out of all the cakes we’ve had, this was probably a favourite with the birthday girl. In fact, we had numerous comments from guests about the cake, and the Big Girl couldn’t have been happier when we revealed the two-tier creation.
The dream this time was to see a cuddly toy on the cake as opposed to a cartoon character, and that’s exactly what she got. Her wish had been inspired by other personalised Sweet Prelude cakes she’d seen at birthday parties in the area, including a stunning cake made to reflect someone’s favourite pastime activities, which is one of the cakes that have really stuck in our minds.
I think Carolina makes the most adorable creations, and her ability to do characters continue to impress me.
And the way she made the teddy was no different.
We had the teddy do a little photo shoot at home, posing in different positions, and emailed Carolina our favourite pictures. We also sent pictures of other tropical party decorations that could provide inspiration for the cake and help ensure it could tie in with the party theme.
The result was a very Instagrammable cake with the beige teddy sitting on the top of the cake surrounded by colourful details, such as a garland and flamingo. In addition to looking the part, the cake was also moist and tasted great.
We had ordered a normal chocolate cake, but today I also tasted a gluten-free chocolate cake with no refined sugar from Sweet Prelude at a different party. Sweet Prelude is not only great at delivering on design and taste, but also meeting special requirements from London parents.
This is the one cake company I continue recommending friends to add to their list of brilliant London kids birthday party contacts.
Sweet Prelude is based in Richmond, and we collected the cake on a Sunday morning, but there is also a delivery option. I had agreed a discount on the cake to review.
