0Review: maze Grill Chelsea for an upscale family-friendly lunch
When I was invited to maze grill for a kids lunch earlier this month I was a bit surprised. Last time I went to Gordon Ramsay’s maze it was for a work lunch in Mayfair, and the slick restaurant there didn’t strike me as the typical family dining destination. But maze grill in Royal Hospital Road, which opened in May in the venue that used to be Foxtrot Oscar, is very different from the original maze. The decor in maze Grill reminds me of a traditional New York grill room, the atmosphere is more relaxed, and they now offer a fun kids menu, putting the restaurant on the map of family-friendly Chelsea restaurants.
The kids menu is printed on a narrow box with activities inside to keep little ones entertained throughout the meal, and it includes kids favourites like bolognese and chicken nuggets, as well as some unique additions like cheesy garlic bread.
For adults, maze is all about sushi and steak–a combination I first felt I needed time to get used to. When visiting, however, and trying little bites from various dishes, the pieces of maki rolls and meat alike were flavoury and beautifully presented.
My only challenge was that Baby Boy didn’t seem to agree with my lunch plans. He preferred being outside the grill, forcing me to stand outside the entrance with him in the buggy for part of the meal.
