0Review: Octonauts Live UK tour for young families
‘I say cheese with the phone, Mummy’
We were sitting in a theatre full of young families in High Wycombe, and Baby Girl was so excited about experiencing Octonauts and the Deep Sea Volcano Adventure she wanted me to give her my phone, so she could take a photo.
We had downloaded Octonauts episodes for her on the iPad the night before, and in the car on the way to High Wycombe she had watched the Cbeebies show.
It didn’t matter that she wasn’t familiar with the series from before this day though. She appeared to be thrilled to be at the show to experience the life-size characters with adorable costumes, which were impossible not to love, and follow the interactive, musical performance, which could practically be described as fast-paced compared to other productions aimed at a similar age group.
When the Octonauts’ undersea base the Octopod had run out of battery, the whole family joined in shouting: ‘Power, power’ to help fix the problem, and when the audience were asked to help steer the Octopod, we all leaned right and left and up and down in our seats. Baby Girl was also dancing in her seat when the charming polar bear Captain Barnacles and his crew were singing on stage, and at the end we all got up to dance.
Octonauts was one of the best children’s shows I’ve seen, and I truly agreed with the young theatre-goer who I overheard telling his mum on the way out: “That was really really great.”
The Octonauts Live UK tour started in October 2014, and the show will be playing in different London venues in 2015. Tikckets are available to buy online now.
