0Review: London’s Sweet Prelude for personalised pirate kids birthday cake
Earlier today I was talking to a friend about options for cakes free from refined sugar and gluten, and how there is one cake company that seems to deliver on not only design and taste, but also on special requirements.
Richmond-based cake company Sweet Prelude continues to surprise me with cakes that make stunning centrepieces and taste delicious. For Big Boy’s birthday we reviewed a pirate chocolate cake, which was shaped as a pirate ship and featured a boy dressed in a blue pirate costume.
It was extremely Instagrammable, moist and delicious. I had opted for a standard chocolate cake, but after tasting more than a dozen cakes from Sweet Prelude at kids parties, I’ve also been surprised by the cakes Sweet Prelude makes that meet requirements of parents who want to avoid refined sugar and gluten.
The lovely Carolina from Sweet Prelude comes across as a service-minded and talented cake designer, and I think she is brilliant at meeting requirements from London parents. With hot weather and a tall mast, she was quick to follow up with us after we had collected the cake and ensuring we hadn’t had any issues on the car journey.
In the run up to the birthday, she had also been happy to get all our cake ideas, and she managed to dress the pirate boy in a pirate costume I had sent her a link to, which made for a brilliant personalised touch for us.
In general, I love the faces Carolina makes on her adorable characters, and her Instagram feed is a joy to go through. When seeing the cakes up close, it is also the tiny details that keep impressing me, and the pirate cake truly delivered on my wish for a happy and friendly pirate cake that suited a sea-themed pirate party.
I keep repeating myself when I write about Sweet Prelude, but for great service and impressive bespoke birthday cakes that taste delicious and make unique centrepieces, I think Sweet Prelude is hard to beat.
Sweet Prelude is based in Richmond, and we collected the cake on a Sunday morning, but there is also a delivery option. I had agreed a discount on the cake to review
