0Review: Sweet Prelude for unique London kids birthday cakes
One of my favourite memories from Big Boy’s 4th birthday party was seeing his face when we opened the white box with his birthday cake. It couldn’t have been more spot on, and it was easy to see that it was exciting to receive numerous compliments for his cake choice.
The cake had been made by Carolina from Sweet Prelude, who I’ve collaborated with for several years now. Sweet Prelude has become our favourite for cute, unique and bespoke London kids birthday party cakes, and I know the company has become the go-to contact for cakes for a number of my friends.
This year, I was impressed with how the Sweet Prelude cake managed to combine a few different themes that we had considered when planning the birthday party and it tied in beautifully with the other party room decorations.
We had opted for a Mickey birthday after being inspired by a recent holiday to Walt Disney World, and other theme ideas had included Mickey and the Roadster Racers and tropical summer. The result ended up being a party table decorated in mainly yellow and green, including palm print tableware, yellow table covers and a palm tree centrepiece. In addition, we made balloon bouquets with both Mickey and tropical-themed foil balloons.
The cake reflected the same summer feel, and it was shaped as a yellow car with Mickey and Minnie inside. Surrounding the car, there was a cakeboard decorated with a palm tree, flowers and little green bushes.
I’m not surprised the birthday boy was excited to see the masterpiece, as I was equally thrilled with the outcome that fitted my brief perfectly. I think the faces on the Sweet Prelude cakes tend to make them look particularly charming and so well-suited for children’s parties.
The best part is still that I love both the designs and the tastes of these cakes, and as usual, we found the chocolate cake to be delicious and moist.
While we tend to choose standard chocolate cakes for birthday parties, I also have friends who order from Sweet Prelude’s alternative cake options. There is, for example, a gluten-free version with no refined sugar, and I’m impressed with Sweet Prelude’s focus on meeting special requirements from London parents.
This is the one cake company I continue recommending to friends who are planning a London kids birthday party.
Sweet Prelude is based in Richmond, and we collected the cake on a Sunday morning, but there is also a delivery option. I had agreed a discount on the cake to review.
