0Review: The Corner House for a buzzing Brook Green hub for families
When I headed over to Brook Green the other day, I thought I would be driving around searching for a parking space near the main street and then walking into a quiet cafe since I arrived outside popular mealtimes.
But I was very wrong.
I found a parking space straight away and then walked into a deli connected to a buzzing restaurant, making me think this was one place it was good I had a booking.
I had been invited to review The Corner House, which opened in Brook Green in 2017. The Corner House has a restaurant and cafe, deli and gift shop, children’s play area and fitness and kids classes.
On the website, The Corner House is very appropriately described as a neighbourhood hub, and that’s exactly what it feels like. This is somewhere locals can stop by for a quick coffee, or parents can go with their little ones to meet likeminded people in the basement, where children can explore a wooden corner house, drive around on toy cars or play musical instruments,
Big Boy made a little friend when we were in the play area, and the two of them seemed to entertain each other, while I sat on a table watching him and catching up on some emails. It was very quiet when we visited, and the two children had more than enough space and toys for a fun hour of play.
There was even a little area for under 2s, and the play space made it seem like a nice place for mums on maternity leave or parents with toddlers or preschoolers to stop by for a little outing. It also seemed like an obvious place for antenatal groups to meet–with a convenient buggy park out at the back–and a suitable venue for children’s birthday parties.
The downside is that there are no windows in the basement, so even if it is possible to buy snacks down there, I was happy we had been offered a table in the restaurant to try the menu after the play session.
I enjoyed the atmosphere in the street-side restaurant, as well as our burger and fish and chips meals. With child-friendly menus, plastic cutlery, colouring and high chairs, the staff made us feel welcome, and I can see The Corner House being popular for families who want to meet somewhere with neighbourhood charm where it’s incredibly easy to bring little ones.
There are even some really sweet events to look out for at The Corner House, and in May I noticed there was a Moana pizza a movie night and on 20 July there’s a superhero-themed family dinner event.
A great local Brook Green hub for families!
The Corner House is located on 102-104 Shepherd’s Bush Road, and there’s a small charge per child for playing in the children’s area.
