Visiting SEA LIFE London Aquarium with young children

“Look, Mummy! Pingu!”

Baby Girl had just had a meltdown when we arrived at the penguin display at SEA LIFE London Aquarium, which we had been invited to visit, and she was lying on the floor in between a group of families.

Pingu quickly came swimming over and looked down at Baby Girl through the glass, making  her look pretty shocked. It’s not what usually happens when she’s having a tantrum. This time I think even she realised there was no point in missing out on meeting the lovely Pingu.

She was soon back on two feet to comment on Pingu and his friends’ swimming and diving skills, and the button she had wanted to push an endless number of times before I had dragged her away to continue the tour was soon forgotten about.

SEA LIFE London Aquarium has so much to offer young children–and big children. I had been on my own a few years back, but I had forgotten how impressive this aquarium really is. The penguins and giant tortoises were highlights for 26-month-old Baby Girl, and her friend looked mesmerised with the crocodile.

They were also fascinated by the glass tunnel and ship wreck, and there was a lot to see at their eye-level. There were only a few times when we had to lift them up to see, including the exciting sting ray pool where you can get up close to see a variety of fish.

Seeing what a fantastic attraction SEA LIFE London Aquarium is for children, I almost felt bad for not having taken her before to see over 500 species of sea creatures from all over the world. I really need to remind myself to make the most of the first class attractions on our doorstep.

It’s difficult to beat a half-term staycation in this city!

SEA LIFE London Aquarium is located next to London Eye, and standard tickets for adults are £25.20 and for children £19.50. Children under 3 go free.
