0Fostering a love for ballet with unique Royal Academy of Dance workshops in London
One of things I love about living in London is the access to top attractions and expertise. When the children are learning about dinosaurs in school, we can pop over to Natural History Museum to see the large T-Rex on display, and it’s a similar situation with so many things that interest the little ones.
Four-year-old Big Girl is now very into ballet, and last year I was thrilled to be invited to a unique Gruffalo-themed children’s ballet workshop at Royal Academy of Dance, which is headquartered at Battersea Square. It was a fantastic way for the two of us to spend a Sunday morning in a professional ballet studio, and after the experience I’ve been on the lookout for more children’s activities at this first-class venue.
Royal Academy of Dance is now taking bookings for a number of activities, and Big Girl has been invited to attend one of their sessions this year, which includes storytelling, dance and a little performance for parents. I can’t wait to take her back for the special event, as I think it’s pretty amazing that she can learn about music and dance in a top venue like this.
She still talks about the Gruffalo workshop from last year, and sometimes we pretend to be owls together like we were that morning.
It was clearly a memorable experience, so I’m glad we stopped by the lovely Royal Academy of Dance shop on the way out that morning. The cuddly Royal Academy of Dance ballerina bunny Big Girl bought is still a soft favourite.
Here are some of the upcoming events at Royal Academy of Dance:
March
On 5 March, there’s a Swan Lake Children’s workshop at Royal Academy of Dance in London, introducing children to the world of classical ballet. There are age-specific workshops for children aged 4 and over throughout the day, and each session will explore a specific scene from the ballet and parents and guardians will be invited to watch a performance at the end.
May
On 21 May, parents with some previous experience of ballet can sign up for the Giselle Adult Repertoire Workshop. By attending the workshop, recommended for those with at least one-year experience, adults can improve technical skills and performance.
July and August
Royal Academy of Dance has also opened bookings for the Children’s Summer Classes for children aged 4 to 7 in July, which is a week-long course with fun and lively classes in ballet and creative dance, and Summer School for children aged 8 to 18 in July and August, which offers young dancers an opportunity to attend an action-packed summer programme to further develop their dance skills.
There are also weekly dance classes at RAD Dance School for all ages, including adults
