0Settling baby in the pram
When I received a free Sleepybumps mat – a bumpy rubber mat to drive the pram over inside to help soothe a baby – I wasn’t sure how useful I would find it. I’ve not been one of those mums who’ve been taking Baby Girl for a walk in her pram in the middle of the night.
But on Thursday it was exactly what I needed. Baby Girl had been given her 8-week vaccinations at lunchtime. By tea time, she had a pretty desperate mum.
At first, I didn’t seem to manage to settle her anywhere else than on my shoulder, but eventually I got her down in her pram. I placed the bumpy mat under the pram in the hall and started pushing the pram over it. It worked.
Every time she started crying again I just jumped up from the sofa and pushed the pram over the mat. With me pushing her over the mat now and then, she slept for a full hour before I got her up for her five o’clock feed and bath.
We’ve tried to avoid sleep props, but I guess using Sleepybumps is practically the same as going for a walk in the park – only more convenient when it’s raining like it did on Thursday.
The mat doesn’t take up much space either. It actually looks like something we’ve put under the pram in the hall to protect the floor.
Now I just need something for waking her up again for feed-time.
