Sleeping through the night after the summer

Baby feetWhen Daddy T and I did the New Baby Company antenatal course last year, we learnt all about Plan A and Plan B. Plan A was to create routines that Baby Girl could associate with going to sleep. Plan B was to introduce sleep props. I think I’m currently on Plan Z.

Baby Girl was sleeping through the night from when she was eight months old, but when we went on holiday in July that all changed. She then started waking up in the middle of the night, and although we’ve been back at home for several weeks, she hasn’t returned to sleeping through the night.

I end up breastfeeding her when she wakes up in the middle of the night wanting a top up, which I realise is definitely not part of Plan A in any course or book on how to get a toddler to sleep through. But I just can’t bear the crying.

When Baby Girl first started sleeping through the night, it seemed to coincide with her eating more solids and being more active, so it practically happened without me trying any specific strategies apart from all the daily bedtime routines we had put in place from when she was a newborn.

Now I just hope even Plan Z will get us back to where we were. Go Plan Z.
