2Staying in a chic Cotswold cottage at Daylesford
As soon as we got out of the car, I took out my phone to take a photo. The entrance to The Wood Store cottage reminded me of something I would have expected to see in a super stylish hotel in Napa Valley, and this first impression made me even more excited about seeing the Cotswold cottage we would be staying in.
We had tried to book one of the Daylesford self-catering cottages for Easter last year, but failed to secure it in time. Now we had planned the trip well in advance, and my friend had booked the cottage for a long weekend in June already in January.
We were two families with toddlers, and this turned out to be the ideal place to holiday for us. When we arrived, there was fresh bread, jam and, eggs in the kitchen, and a Prosecco in the fridge. All the basics such as washing up liquid, salt and pepper and olive oil was there, and the bathrooms were equipped with Bamford toiletries.
We felt like we were staying in a beautiful boutique hotel, but we had the luxury of being able to eat in our own stylish living room and not worry about babysitting. Guests in the cottages enjoy 10% off in the farm shop, located next to the Apple Store cottage we stayed in, and we bought delicious meat and pasta dishes from there every day and cooked on the AGA in the cottage.
For lunch, we went to the Daylesford Café or the pizza bar in the courtyard, and in-between meals, we went on farm walks to see cows and sheep. Baby Girl and her friend also spent lots of time outside in the fenced in garden, playing with their dolls, and we could sit by our garden table and still feel the buzzing weekend atmosphere at Daylesford.
I loved staying in The Apple Store so much that I just wish they could replicate these cottages in several locations around the UK, so we can visit other areas too!
Great Cotswolds recommendations! Will definitely try to stay at one of these self-catering cottages next time. Really enjoyed The Kingham Plough and The Wild Rabbit! Was there access to a farm at Daylesford, as we couldn’t see this (only the shops and spa)? Would also highly recommend the lovely Sonia Hiley from Cotswolds Angel for any of your babysitting needs!
Thank you for this, Ellen! If you’re staying at The Kingham Plough or The Wild Rabbit, you can walk across the fields to Daylesford Farm, passing cows and sometimes sheep on the way. We’ve also seen geese etc when arriving from this side. When you’re at the farm, look for signs for Farm Walk to see the animals. The area is quite large, and the animals move around, so it varies where you’ll see them. Thank you for the babysitting recommendation! Tine x
