0Stopping breastfeeding after a year
Before I had Baby Girl, I was convinced it would be easy to avoid mastitis by sticking to a routine, I was certain that all babies would take a bottle if introduced to the concept in the early weeks, and I assumed stopping breastfeeding was just a case of setting a date. But I was wrong. For me, breastfeeding was slightly more complex than I had foreseen.
I did get mastitis despite having read about how to prevent it, I did get a baby who refused to take a bottle despite introducing it early, and I’ve not managed to stop breastfeeding when planned.
To me, stopping breastfeeding sounded pretty unproblematic. I had decided to do it for up to a year, and friends had told me that their babies had eventually lost interest in breastfeeding, so it was straightforward to stop.
That just didn’t happen in my case. Baby Girl and I didn’t seem to have the same date in our calendars.
And before I had a baby, I actually thought my plans would still matter.
