1Taking baby on a mini-break in the Cotswolds
When we checked out of the One & Only in Dubai, Daddy T asked about room availability for Easter. We were keen to return as soon as possible. But by the time we landed at Heathrow, a ‘staycation’ suddenly seemed a lot more appealing.
The long-haul daytime flights are becoming increasingly demanding, as Baby Girl is awake more during the day and wants to be entertained. After an exhausting flight home from Dubai, it suddenly didn’t sound too bad to take a holiday in the UK for a change.
That’s how we ended up on a midweek Easter break in the Cotswolds. We managed to secure the two large double bedrooms at The Kingham Plough, an award-winning pub with rooms and a well-known kitchen.
Staying at a pub has been perfect. The restaurant at The Plough is amazing, but still casual. In fact, the food is the main reason for why we keep returning to this place.
We were dubious about coming with Baby Girl though, but she’s now proven that even a mini-break like this works. We came with friends who also have a young baby and it’s been a joy.
Baby Girl and her friend had breakfast with the rest of us, dinner when we had some petit fours and tea, and slept in their buggies next to our corner table at dinner. Holidaying in the UK is not so bad after all.
I hate flying anywhere with the little ones – and they ain’t that little now (5 & 7) so huge props for you for being able to have it all under control during long-distance flights. Holidays are holidays, it is the state of mind, not the place – glad you were able to have a rest.
