Taking a magical flight on The London Eye at Christmas time

It’s easy to forget the fantastic attractions we have on our doorstep in London, but this Christmas I was determined to show Baby Girl the best of our city. And to get an incredible view of the city it clearly makes sense to get a view from above.

I was thrilled to receive tickets to go on The London Eye, as I remembered loving going to Christmas work drinks in tall buildings in December. It can be truly magical to get a view of all the city’s Christmas lights, and that’s why I think it’s exciting to see the city at night at this time of the year.

For the first time, we took Baby Girl on The London Eye, and she seemed excited to walk up to the huge ferris wheel through the tree-lined entrance area decorated with blue Christmas lights. We went at 5pm, which was ideal, as it was dark and we could see the lights from the gigantic Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, Covent Garden and the Christmas market below us at South Bank. We could also point out famous landmarks like Big Ben, and we took tonnes of photos together to show off to Daddy later.

Our capsule was far from crowded, and there was no queue to enter. The rotation takes 30 minutes, which is perfect for little ones, and there are many child-friendly restaurants on South Bank, so the flight could easily be combined with a family dinner.

Standard tickets for adults are £20.95, children (4-15 years) £15 and children under 4 go free. The London Eye ticket also includes entry to a 4D cinema experience, and you can buy discounted tickets online in advance.
