Teaching baby to swallow food

Silver spoonBaby Girl must have felt she had perhaps taken it a bit too far on Friday. When she heard Daddy T and I discussing getting help with weaning it was almost like she instantly realised she had to get her act together. She had to stop storing food in the mouth and spitting it out. She had to start swallowing.

That’s what she did on Saturday. She had clearly wanted to build up momentum. If she’d eaten properly the first time she had solids, I probably wouldn’t have been anywhere near as excited as I was on Saturday. This time, I was so thrilled with the progress I was close to shedding some happy tears.

It’s been stressing us out that Baby Girl hasn’t seemed to want any of the food we’ve served her. We’ve had to scoop food up from her chin, and it’s been impossible to say how much she’s had.

Ever time I’ve seen other babies at around the same age eat, I’ve become more and more concerned about Baby Girl. I couldn’t quite understand how we would manage to ensure she had a balanced diet and introduce proteins by the time she turned seven months.

But we’re back on track. On Saturday, Baby Girl was eating from a spoon like the other babies, and she had chicken four days before the seven-month deadline. Go Team Baby Girl.
