3Testing seasonal pram accessories
On Friday, I felt like I was taking part in a parade, a Bugaboo parade across Albert Bridge. With the sun out, I was not the only mum who had fancied a walk in the park.
In fact, there was a bunch of us walking in a neat line on the narrow pavement, pushing Bugaboos across the river. Even without chatting to any of the other mums in the accidental Bugaboo parade, I felt a sense of belonging.
The only issue was that I stood out in the group. I was one of the few who were out on this hot day without a sun canopy or a UV sun cover. Poor Baby Girl only had the regular hood on her Bugaboo.
The next day Daddy T was in charge of ensuring we would fit in better when returning to the park. He unwrapped the new sun canopy we had stored in the closet, and removed the regular hood.
After an hour of swearing at the pram though, the sun canopy was still not on.
In the end, Daddy T decided to put the regular hood back on, only to find that now that wouldn’t fit either, and we were forced to walk around with a floppy hood for the rest of the day.
On Sunday, he had a second round of reading web forums and instructions online, but still no luck in fixing the floppy hood issue. He kept complaining that we should never have tried to change a winning bet, and that it seemed like a degree in engineering was required to figure out how the pram worked.
By noon, he admitted defeat. A Harrods salesperson had to come to the rescue. While Baby Girl enjoyed a quiet meal in a nursing chair in the children’s department, Daddy T spent an hour with the lovely salesperson who had sold us the Bugaboo. He fixed the hood, did a demo of the raincover and UV sun cover, helped us locate the sun cover on the car seat, and answered all Daddy T’s questions about baby equipment.
Finally, we’re the proud owners of a Bugaboo with a straight hood and a sun cover that fits. Now we can relax.
We had exactly the same issue with our Bugaboo! In fact, although I loved the Bugaboo at the beginning when little man was tiny I ended up buying a Baby Jogger too (much to the annoyance of OH who thinks one buggy is enough – silly man!). The Baby Jogger was great as little man got bigger as it lays flat and has a huge sun canopy which almost covers the entire seat. Also I found I couldn’t jog with the Bugaboo. I know they don’t sell it as a running buggy anyway, but even at a fast walking pace the front wheels would lock. The moral to my story is you can never have enough shoes, bags or buggies 🙂
Good point, Nadyne! We have a Mountain Buggy for trips to Norway, and we’ve already looked at getting a third buggy for travelling. I just don’t know where to store all these things!
To fix a floppy hood, look for L and R on the plastic parts that are inserted into the hood
