The pitfalls of daddy day care

Thomas in liftWhen I asked Daddy T if he could look after Baby Girl one Saturday to allow me to participate in my best friend’s hen party, he was all in. Of course he would take care of Baby Girl that day.

Since it was the very first time in 13 months that I had asked him to look after her on his own for more than the couple of hours it takes me to have my hair done, I wasn’t too surprised by his positive attitude to spending a day alone with our little star either. In fact, it sounded like they would have a great Saturday.

That’s why I was pretty surprised when I found out he’d outsourced the responsibility. The night before the big day he casually dropped into a conversation that he’d arranged babysitters to come in the evening, and that he was also going out for dinner.

He was blissfully unaware that this would cause any sort of argument. He had it all sorted as far as he was concerned. But from my point of view, this was my one day to go out with my friends.

To be able to enjoy it, it was important to me that Baby Girl was with someone who could get her back to sleep if she were to wake up, and I wanted to know I was the only one of us going out, so I didn’t have to be the responsible parent on this one occasion. Not cool, Daddy T.
